Hey everyone!
The last day for PR393 students has finally come to an end. I'm not saying that because I couldn't wait to get this unit over and done with, but because today marks my last day as an undergraduate - and I'm sure there are some of you out there just like me, completing your last unit today. It's a very bittersweet feeling; in fact I'm not even sure I'm even glad it's all over.
Anyway, before I get carried away any further - congratulations to all who're done with university! To the rest who are waiting to complete your last examinations, well, you're almost there!
For my last blog post, I'd like to share with you guys what I've learnt during my period at CBS's External Relations.
As I've shared with you guys in my last post, my job scope and responsibilities differ quite a bit from the usual tasks most of you had to do - media releases, media strategies, and newsletters, amongst other techniques we've learnt throughout our PR degree. While it may be a bit disappointing that I wasn't able to demonstrate the skills learnt from the past 2 years, it nevertheless educates me about a few things:
Firstly, it wouldn't necessarily mean you'll get the opportunity to demonstrate every technique you've learnt at university.
Secondly, that even if you're the PR Officer of an organization, it wouldn't necessarily mean your job entirely revolves around public relations. You'd probably end up doing some marketing and administrative work as well.
Thirdly and lastly, if you have a slight interest in gaining an extra skill, take up a course on it, or do some research for institutes that hold courses – there might be something you’re interested in. Check out the TAFE as they have courses that may interest you! The winter break is a great time to pick up a new skill! It might sound like I’m a tad pushy, but with an extra skill that others don’t, you’ve already gain an edge over them.
Oh yes, one last thing – I went by Katharina’s office earlier, and I noticed that External Relations is looking an intern in Semester 2, 2010. So, if what I’ve done during my internship sounds something that you might like to experience, ask for more details from Katharina! It’s a great place to gain some work experience. I’d say, go for it!
To everyone – best wishes in your future endeavours!
That’s all from me; it’s been fun blogging and being able to share our experiences.
Over and out!
Michelle
