SafeWork Australia Week

Hello everyone,

Friday the 22nd of October marked the beginning of Safe Work Australia week. In recognition WorkSafe hosted a launch breakfast. The breakfast was held in the Rothschild’s function room at the Perth Zoo. The promotions team and I planned and organised this event as well as a forum and a dinner. The forum will be held tomorrow, the 26th of October. I was lucky to be invited to both the breakfast and the forum. When I arrived at the breakfast I helped with a number of small tasks. Firstly I went around each table and put a WorkSafe bag on each seat. These contained a note book, pen, evaluation forms and other promotional material. I also helped putting up large signs for the department of commerce and WorkSafe in positions where they were not obstructing anyone’s view of the screen. When the guests started to arrive I greeted them, gave them a name tag and directed them where to sit. All these tasks were easy and fun. Overall I thought the breakfast was a pleasant and smooth running event. Nothing really went wrong and the speaker was popular among the guests. His name was Mathew Bowen. It was a good feeling to see all the hard work the team has done come together and be a success. I am looking forward to helping at the forum.

During the week I prepared the gifts that will be given to attendees of the Safety Achievers Gala Dinner. The gift is everlasting flower seeds. The team thought this would be appropriate as the theme of the night is Western Australia. Everlastings are a native flower in Western Australia. This was a very time consuming task because I had to make 300 of them. To do this I had to scoop the tiny seeds into little plastic bags with a teaspoon. I then had put the seeds in an envelope which I also had to attach a sticker too. The sticker thanks guests for attending and explained a bit about everlasting flowers and how to grow them. The publications team wrote a small article with a picture of me making the gifts and put it on the intranet.

Another task I was involved with during the week was writing payment details into a book that keeps a record of all the payments made. I also managed a large mail merge. I had to pack 31 boxes with materials to be sent off to a company to pack into WorkSafe backpacks. These will be given out during WorkSafe week at specific events.

I am nearly at the end of my placement now. During my work experience so far it has occurred to me I may like to get into event management at the end of my degree. Although organising events can be stressful at times I think it would be an enjoyable and rewarding career.

That’s all for now.

Regards,

Rachel

Events management is a fundamental part of Public relations which is important for targeting the audience.

I agree that organising events can be stressful and tiring at times especially when you need to plan and executive the whole event.

I believe that the satisfaction you recieve at the end of the day overcome everything!
