COMMUNICATION FEAR !

Hi everyone,

As a Public Relation (PR) person, it is important for us to communicate with our client in order to understand their needs to develop an effective PR communications plan that works for them as well as to get the right facts to write the press releases, feature stories, etc and this is the basic duty of what a PR person should do. However, I realised recently that I have this fear of communicating with my client as I am worry about saying the wrong things that affect the reputation of the company that I am working in now.

This fear of communicating have never happen to me as I consider myself chatty and likes to talk to people from all walks of life and this is something that I have been doing since my first job. I am not sure if this could be the stress of working as an intern but it's definitely the kind of fear that anyone would have when they started out on a new job.

Let's face the fact that I cannot be hiding away from all communication with my client especially when I am now working on a story for my client's newsletter. Given such a situation, I guess I have no choice but to break the ice by sending emails and start building a relationship with my client. Once this relationship is establish, I am sure my fear will be reduce bit by bit.

I hope this works for me, will update you guys / gals on my next blogging session on the outcome meanwhile anyone care to share with me how I can reduce this fear of communication.

Hi Doreen,

I have experienced the same feelings you are experiencing now, as I am sure all people do when they are in a new situation with quite a few superiors surrounding them.

I think, that like you have suggested, the best way to get over these feelings is to take that leap and start emailing and establish a relationship. Here you will establish boundaries and find out what is really expected of you.

Hope the rest of your placement goes well =)

Gabby

PS. Don't forget to always ask questions when in doubt!
