School Assembly

It was during our Networking session on 15 Jan 2011 that we were invited by Hwa Chong Institution to share about volunteering during their school assembly on 21 Jan 2011. We said YES immediately! An opportunity not to be missed!

We would share about the organisation, our voluntary opportunities and possibilities of collaborations. At the same time, we were also looking forward to hear what the students' reactions will be.

Spent 2 days to prepare the presentation slides. Decided on which video to play to motivate the students and share on how volunteering for the needy can be a satisfaction and learning experience. Wrote notes and planned on what to say during the presentation.

Target audience were high school boys (Sec 1 to Sec 4). 500 of them during the iSparks assembly in the auditorium. I was early, recce the school, then waited for time to arrive before meeting up with Fabian, who is a Student Leader. In front of the audience, the feeling was mixed. Standing on stage, butterflies were flying in my stomach.

The video's v touching, abt how we helped the Chew siblings in their studies and bring them to school. The eldest boy managed to enter Primary 3 when he was already 13years old, after one of our volunteers found him loitering at the void deck. There were laughters among the audience, could tell that they're interested. At the end of it, brochures and volunteer application forms were distributed.

We have done follow-ups, some of the students are interested to organise like one-day camps for our beneficiaries. Others are going to join programmes which need their weekly commitments.

Overall experience was fun, and yet stressful. Somehow, I would love to do it again!
