GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

I great you the aspiring Public Relations officers and consultants.

When i was an internee at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, Botswana, i have experienced the hands on CORPORATE CONSCIENCE by donating groceries and clothing to one of the poor families in a village called Tsonyane, also in Botswana. I was assigned with one of the permanent employees in the information and PR department to organize this mini-event. So we had to encorporate Red Cross International to help us with the survey to locate the family that needs the most help, who are really in need. With their analysis of their records they suggested we donate to the Mokgankgara family in Tsonyane which is 150km away from our office. We put together all the information and findings considering we were given a budget of BWP8000 for the donations, which was equivalent to USD1200 and submitted to the Chief Information and Public Relations Officer for approval.

The mini event was held on the 20th of December 2010. It was also considered to be a Christmas present to the family. Present at the event was the Village Chief, Mr Mosarwe, Red Cross International representatives, members of the public and we the 'employees of the the MoA'.

The general and pivotal role of CSR is to embrace responsibility for the company's actions and encourage positive impacts through its activities on the environment, consumers, employees, communities, stakeholders and other members of the public sphere. It works to create a long-term sustainable development.

The ministry had also made it a norm that every Friday is a community day on which they either go litter picking and indulge in other community projects. That was implemented the last week of my internship.

I must just say big ups for Botswana Ministry of agriculture for being a part of poverty eradication.
Corporate Social Responsibility involve an organization's continuing commitment to behaving ethically and contributing to economic development while improving the quality of life for its employees, community and society.
At Marina Hospital we also got involved in giving back to the community to show love and caring to our clients. This is has been a routine all along, whereby every December the events committee in conjuction with the Public Relations department would raise funds and organize a Christmas party for all the in-patients so that they don’t feel abandoned or neglected. During this event my role was to make sure that the venue is well prepared, invite VIP'S and also to give out gifts. The other reason for doing this is to boost the reputation of the organization.
