Not Your Typical Kind of Event

I was invited to join the organisation of a very special event held by SUPP Piasau branch. The event is called 'Friends of Facebook Gathering'. The objective of this event is to establish a common ground where the youth of Miri can interact with SUPP politicain Tan Sri George Chan Hong Nam in a relaxing atmosphere. What makes this event unique is the nature of this event itself. The target audience of this event is young people who are technology savy and uses Facebook as their primary communication tools. Thus the event integrated Facebook, a very popular social networking tool, in the event programme to ensure the relativeness to the target audience.Furthermore, the promotion of this event rely heavily on Facebook as the main communication tool.

Throughout the event, there are appointed photographers who took photos of the attendees and guest. The photos were then uploaded into SUPP Facebook photo album on the spot by using laptops. A projector is also used to show the participants of the uploading process and the photos upload. There are also games and food prepared for the attendees.

All in all, the event had been successful. I managed to communicate with some of the attendees and they find this event out of the box. It is creative and it instantly connect with them. From this event, I've learn that identifying who you want to target in your event is extremely important. Similarly to the theory of PR to identify who are your stakeholders. After you have identify them, you will know what kind of communication tools you need and how to shape the message of your event. The successfulness of the event depends on how well your target audience can relate and resonance with it.

Joanne, you did a great job this night! As you took the emcee job, you were able to engage the audience and bringing them reach the objective of the whole event.

Many of the facebook friends of SUPP who were there said that they would come back again if ever there was another event like this to meet with the people behind the website and also the leaders of SUPP.

Keep up the good work and hope to see you emcee more events in the future !
