Hi everyone.
I am Aminath Nafha from Curtin Malaysia Sarawak Campus. This is 1st blog post.
I have completed my internship during last semester break, from 17th June till 16th July 2011 at ‘Kaimoo Travels and Hotel Services (Pte) Ltd’ in Maldives. I will begin with a brief introduction of the company. ‘Kaimoo’ is among the very first tourism related companies that were established in the Maldives. The company has expanded over the last 30 years due to the rapid development of tourism industry in the Maldives. The company now owns 3 resorts and 3 hotels in different parts of the country.
I have gained lot of experiences of the real work environment through my 1month internship at Kaimoo. It also got to experience my dream of working in the hospitality industry.
The most prominent challenges that I faced from the initial stage of my internship was due to the traditional nature of the company. The company has been portraying a low-profile and hence barely employing Public relations practices. They do not even have a vision and mission statement. Basically, there are no set objectives, core values or rules for them to follow. Therefore, my first assignment was to propose a vision statement, mission statement and core values for the company. Through this I was able enrich my knowledge when I was searching about the successful companies and their strategies.
The best thing I experienced at my internship was that I had to directly report to the managing director and human resource manager of the company who are among the senior management. Their tremendous support and advice motivated me from the first day of work.
I will share more about my experiences with you all in my next blog post.
Hope you all are enjoying your internship.
Good Luck.

Hi Amianath
Wow your internship sounds amazing! I would love to get into the hospitality industry myself so your internship sounds ideal!
I can also relate to how your company does not have a vision and mission statement as my company also did not have one. I am really looking forward to reading your other blogs!
All the best for the rest of your internship :)
