This is my second post about my internship at Amnesty International Mauritius Section. I actually have to say that am learning a lot in the PR field in an NGO.
As an intern, I also had the chance to assist and work on a meeting for the amnesty clubs in different colleges around the island. The meeting took place at Amnesty and members of the clubs were invited to come, discuss and share the different activities that took place in their respective colleges. I got to propose and share with them some pretty good ideas about how to organise events, create eye-catching banners and develop messages for their own little campaigns. This was indeed an enriching experience for me to work with youngsters and this has also helped me to discover new ideas and proposals from students’ point of view.
During my internship, I have taken a lot of initiative that had benefited my organisation. DIMEs are monthly newsletter of Amnesty International Mauritian Section. One of the my initiative was to create a special folder for all the DIMEs issued till date. This was well appreciated by my fellow colleague with whom I worked.

Articles, workshops, promotion as well as events are all part of the work of a public relations practitioner. I am extremely lucky to have got to work on each one of them during my internship at Amnesty. The PR tasks in an NGO may have been different from the actual corporate world and what we learnt in class but it is the experience that counts at the end.
Just stay tuned and I will keep you updated about my experience!!!

Hey Darla,
At Last, I'm getting to read your second post...Good to hear that one of the articles you have written during your placement has even been published in a daily newspaper! Congrats! I find it really motivating when your superiors appreciate your work and it is given its due just like yours...
I must say that your internship somewhat differs from mine as this is an NGO, far from the glam of the hotel industry where I've been but still it is as interesting as mine and provides you with much hands-on PR experience while allowing you to put into practice what you have learnt at uni. I find this really insightful. Keep up the good work!
NGOs operate differently from the corporate world but the work they do deserves the respect and praise of all just as Amnesty is doing with regards to human rights etc. You made the right choice indeed for your placement.!
Cheers.

Wow.. that's great to hear that your articles have been published. It's really motivating and is a great opportunity for your future career.
As Aniksha said, your internship differs from ours. Mine, at the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, we are more focused on the image of the Minister as well as all the messages which are shared with the public.
Sure, your internship must be really interesting as it deals with Human Rights and i am sure that your are learning new and uselful PR tips.
Cheers

Hi Darla,
Great to hear that you have been involved in several tasks during your internship. Obviously, it is a real challenge to write in French when you are used to English. Beside, French grammar is quite harsh…
I want to share my writing experience with you cause me too I have been writing an article for Neologik Ltd on the statistics of ICT sector in Mauritius. As you have mentioned there has been a lot of research and this obviously help to develop our knowledge and to develop new skills. My director, being also a journalist has not only taught me PR stuffs but has brought me to think as a journalist too. During my internship I have seen that public relations has many things to do with journalism. PR practitioners should be up-to-date and should deal with media relations each day. The fact that journalism is a mirror this enables Amnesty International to be reflected before its public. Consequently, a PR practitioner should somehow have a notion of journalism as they are complementary.
Furthermore, I think that the load of work during this internship has been a great opportunity to upgrade our skills in order to be a better PR executive later on.
Thanks for your sharing.
Cheers,
