Like Gravy itself, the website needed charisma, it required
a fun element, and it had to be a little bit different from others; yet still hold
a sense of professionalism and maturity. After nearly 2 days of completely unsupervised
chopping, changing, moving, creating, writing, adding and inserting; I revealed
the final product to Ivana. And what an amazing response I received!! She absolutely
LOVED it and I was extremely happy with what I had achieved and it proved that
all my hard work and effort paid off. After just a few suggestions and changes
in the website text, my website creation was paid for and in cyber space! Here
are a few screen shots from the website:

This task was particularly exciting for me because it wasn’t
a client we were working on like normal day-to-day business at Gravy, it was
the consultancy itself that we improved which showed me that not only should
our focus be on our clients’ business developments – but our company too. This led
me to additionally take the initiative to create a Facebook page for Gravy and
connect the website and this together (click here to view the Facebook
page). At times I think we are so focussed and put such an emphasis on our clients’
affairs that we neglect our own business – which can in fact be detrimental for
both of us in the end! After all, we have to practise what we preach.
Until next time…

Hi Sarah,
I think it’s so awesome that you got to create an entire website! I didn't even know sites like Crazy Domains existed - I will definitely be keeping that in mind for the future.
I completely agree with your assertion that it is important to focus on the internal side of business at times. Although clients bring in the money, the only way to *get* clients is to have a great image and presentation - and in our ridiculously digitalized world, a huge amount of our image comes back to our online presence.
A Facebook page has to not only provide information about the company but also engage people - perhaps you could run a competition for followers or post photo's and ask for feedback etc. I feel I should also mention that when I clicked the twitter link it didn't lead me to the gravy twitter feed… In fact I couldn't find it at all! Something to double check perhaps?
It sounds like you have a great boss who is open and willing to try new things as well as a great relationship built on trust where you have a fairly free reign to practice PR without someone hanging over your shoulder!
All the best,
Beth
Great work there, Sarah – I reckon you did a fine job capturing the essence of the company. It must be nice to know that your work is well-appreciated by your superior. It is safe to say that you can now add another skill, i.e. web designing to your curriculum vitae.
We have since observed the astounding effects of how attaining a solid foothold in the World Wide Web can help to build awareness, case in point: Justin Bieber (lol). This very much explains the importance and necessity for businesses to create an online presence. Due to its readily accessible nature, the internet can greatly aid in providing information to users from different ends of the world, at any point of time.
In fact, I have known that many first impressions of companies are based upon the appearance of their web domains. Hence, it is great to know that Gravy has jumped on the bandwagon – with you playing a significant part in achieving it.
Here’s to enjoying the remaining days of your internship!
Hi Sarah,
What a great opportunity to have some creative input in the image of the company.
It's great to see that you took the initiative to research other consultancy websites in order to gain an understanding of the format.
From the images I can see that you have put in a lot of effort, it looks great!
I visited the website and just thought that I'd let you know some of the hyperlinks were not working on the home page? I'm sure you are already on to this though :)
Fantastic idea in creating a Facebook page- social media is a necessary tool in today's PR world. I think a lot of people who practice traditional PR tend to oversee the importance of connecting with an online audience.
A rule of thumb on websites that has resonated with me from my PR Principles unit, is that 'if you can't find what you're looking for about a company in two clicks, then it's probably a bad website'. The importance of having a well formatted website will ensure that visitors can readily obtain the information they are seeking, meaning that they will be more inclined to stay on the website and view other material.
I think the layout of the Gravy website is simple and effective :)
I also completely agree with your point on focusing on the company itself rather than just clients. A professional and engaging website is integral to the overall image of an organization.
I've had a look at your other blog posts and have found them all extremely insightful. Looks like you have been an asset to the Gravy team! If you have the chance to check out my blogs, you can search for them through '140 Perth'.
All the best,
Steph
