Trying to Gain the Competitive Edge!

As my placement continues, I have been engrossed in the more menial day-to-day responsibilities the business. This includes monitoring social media, responding to customer enquiries and general assorted paperwork. One of my more creative responsibilities, however, has resided in ways of engaging with customers, new and retained.

I determined an alternative way to attract new customers, whilst still rewarding loyal customers, would be through competitions run via social media. Looking at this as an opportunity to show creativity, I have developed a range of ideas throughout my placement.

Firstly, I implemented a basic competition to get an overall indication of how successful this idea would be with our target audience and current customers. The competition was a simple “Like & Share to win” which involved customers liking a picture and then sharing it on their Facebook or Instagram page, utilising highlighted hashtags in order to win. This competition is a great way to publicize and engage with customers outside our current client base.

The other competitions followed a similar structure but with a slight twist. For example, we ran a best friend competition, which asked customers to post a photo of themselves and their three closest friends for a chance to win a TPAL wardrobe for each.

These competitions proved successful for us in engaging with different customers, drawing attention to our social media pages and encouraging “Likes”. One of my challenges involved ensuring that each of our competitions was successfully implemented in alignment with the competitions rules set out on Facebook and Instagram. For instance, I had to develop a set of official rules for each competition, decipher the terms and eligibility requirements of entrants and ensure that the necessary regulatory approvals were ascertained.

To assist in running and monitoring these competitions, I utilised Woo Box an online utensil that helps to creative powerful competitions to grow fans and amplify marketing. I found this program very helpful as we ran a variety of competitions and this assisted me in keeping track of each one.
