Started as an intern, now i’m PAID!

I'm approximately 40 shifts in at Momentum Forum Events where I completed my Public Relations Internship 393 placement for my final semester at university. While morale was rapidly falling as I felt like I was doing the same task for 6-8 hours not testing any of my acquired public relations theory from my studies, I was about to quit.

On the day I was about to leave (about shift #30) I got called into the office by the boss herself and she asked me how I am enjoying the job, I was honest and said I appreciated the opportunity she gave me to complete my placement and the few skills I learnt along the way. She then told me that they are extremely grateful for all of my contributions to the organisation as an intern and they wished to keep me on as a part-time employee, I initially hesitated as I already work both Saturday and Sunday in hospitality and working the requested Thursday and Friday would be too much to juggle. But temptation of earning that extra money whilst gaining that extra experience prevailed!

I have now completed approximately four paid shifts at Momentum Forum Events and it feels like they have given me a highly autonomous role in organising the Perth Pet Expo which will be held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on December 6th and 7th 2014 (advertisement intended). The role includes sourcing new sponsors and exhibitors for the event and organising the entertainment which will be taking place on both days.

The entertainment so far will include a snake whisperer who will be allowing patrons to hold a snake for a gold coin donation, a cat parade, a dog performance and an exotic bird performance by parrots.

I am extremely excited to see you all there if you can make it and tickets are now available for sale on Eventbrite!

Thank you all for reading and good luck for your reports!

Joseph

Hi Joseph,

Congratulations! It sounds like you had an incredible placement and worked really hard.

I found this blog post extremely relatable, as i too after my placement was asked to return as a full time employee - now this will be my first full time job after graduating at the end of this semester...scary thought but at the same time so amazing.

As you said, i know juggling two jobs would be crazy, but the experience you will gain from it all is priceless.

All the best for the future,
