SOCIAL MEDIA

Hi everyone!!

I thought I would reflect on my experience and share with you what I've learnt from preparing a social media plan for one of Magentas clients.

Usually when Magenta takes on a new client to help promote brand/product awareness, it is normal for them to take over their social media pages such as Facebook and Instagram. This allows them to have full control of what is being sent out to their targets and what their targets are communicating back to them.

I was given the responsibility to draft a social media plan for the up-coming month for one of Magentas clients and their product and services. Drafting a social media plan for this client included coming up with a theme for the posts (what I would be focusing my posts around), a photo, and obviously an inciting little paragraph to go along with the photo.

Initially I was very excited about this task, after all I am a teenager who is constantly using Facebook and Instagram, how hard could it be?

However, as this client has been with Magenta for quite some time, and they have been posting on behalf of their client on social media for a few months, It was a lot harder than I thought to come up with something fresh and new to attract their target. Even finding a photo that looked alluring and appealing that Magenta hadn't previously used in their previous posts was a challenge.  Despite the challenge, I tried my best, and produced a draft social media plan that I was happy with and I think that my supervisors were happy with too.

Tips for the day
Put yourself in your audiences shoes: What would you want to see/read about the particular product or service? What type of photo would make you double click on the photo to read what it's all about? That way you can see the bigger picture and get a clear idea of how you are going to approach writing your post.

Do not over post: Something that I learnt from this task and from Magenta is that if you post something on Facebook and Instagram everyday your audience will start to get annoyed, and eventually disregard every future post you make because you are continuously clogging their news feed. Keep it to three times a week, spread out over two days, it will still give some influence, it's just less in the customers face.

That's all from me for now :)

Thanks

Isabella

Hey Isabella!

Your internship seems to be giving you excellent advice on social media!

I found I had a similar struggle when trying to come up with 'fresh' new posts for sponsorship promotion. One task in particular was to promote a shop in PLAZA arcade where I had to select a few items of clothing and create a post that was subtle and didn't screen 'buy this'. Which is hard considering it's unusual for TPFF to promote labels that are WA designer. So I agree with how hard social media can be at times.

Enjoy!

Hi Isabella,

This is such a great post on social media.
The advice you have given about limiting the amount of posts on social media is spot on! Having posted on behalf of my organisation during this internship I have tried to do the same, and have learnt a lot about social media too.

I also agree 100% when organisations abuse social media, I click that unfollow button straight away if they post too many status or Instagram pictures.

Thanks!

Hey Isabella,

Even though I didn't have much to do with the social media during my internship, I felt they were a prime example! And I do all the social media for my work so I can absolutely understand what you mean about seeing the post through the customers eyes. This perspective always helps me out, however it can be a challenge if you have a large target audience!!

And no body likes a news feed clogger! I have deleted many organisations off my Facebook for the same reason. I think one a day for most organisations is just enough :D

Congratulations on scoring this internship... Sounds like you're learning heaps!

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Hey Bella,

I had a similar experience, and I completely agree with what you say about limiting how often you post. I created a social media schedule for a month's worth of posts for one of PPR's clients. They required a daily post on Facebook and it was incredibly hard to create fresh, interesting content as the client was very niche.

Definitely a lesson in creative thinking for content!
