3 months of being an intern has come to an end, and all I can say is that the experience that I got working with my colleagues and being a part of the company is the most valuable lesson I could get as a student.
The real world is nothing like what we have studied in class and the ethical decisions that are to be made during the times of my internship was far more complicated than writing an essay or sitting for an exam I must say.
My job involves researching and helping the indigenous people of Miri, Sarawak and also helping the less privileged children from the villages and the orphans. We aim to raise the standard of their living conditions and also plan activities and events to help them.
Through my research of the indigenous people, to find that their homes are being taken away from them is a heart aching emotion that I, as an intern must succumb. It is difficult not to get emotionally attached when working with humans. Though I have left the company, I plan to continue to contribute to their well being and development and this is something that will never be taken away from me even though I have left Malaysia.
I must say that this is what my lecturer has been telling us in class. When working with people sometimes there is no black and white and we might get sucked into situations that touch us on an emotional level but we must be strong.
Moving on to my manager, working with my corporate communications manager was lovely as she tries so hard to do what she can to help the people that we are helping, as part of the social corporate responsibility team. It is disappointing that our directors do not see what we see as they only hope for a good image for the company, but without fail, we still work as hard as we are doing something that are changing people's lives everyday.
These are the experiences that I am going to carry with me for a very long time and I am very pleased that I was able to gain such experiences through my internship.
That is all for now.
Best regards,

Hi Sterwina,
I love this post of yours! Although I wasn't really involved in any human-related activities throughout my internship programme, I believe this is an important point that you've raised especially when it comes to ethical decision making.
I have to agree with you that this human-to-human interaction is definitely different than to just simply read case studies in class. It's hard to be put in these kinds of situation. But then, this actually teaches us how to be stronger!
Great read!

Celeste
