Job Fair 2015

On the 27th and 28th of April, Sedeco participated in the job fair with the aim to attract employees to the company. My job was to draft a speech which I had to present to my Supervisor. The main aim was to learn the speech and to be able to deliver the message to the public. The speech was about the company profile and how the company functions as well as the different departments in the company. The purpose was to convince potential job seekers to work for Sedeco and also the main advantage working at Sedeco.
I was also responsible for set up of tables, posters and several important materials that were needed during the job fair. I had to assemble some pictures which had to be included in a powerpoint presentation that was on display on a laptop so that people could see that at Sedeco, people do work but they also know how to enjoy. One of my tasks was also to take some pictures of the job fair as asked by my supervisor so that next year during the job fair, new photos could be included.
There were lots of people on both days. On the first day, I was not so confident on going to talk to people as I was a very timid guy but by the afternoon I was confident of myself. The next day everything went on smoothly and a large number of candidates were shortlisted for interviews by the Human Resource Department. I was very happy to be part of the job fair experience which came me the opportunity not just to talk to people but also to know myself a bit more.

I was elated to meet 4 of my high school and primary friends. It has been several years that we did not see each other. I also met two fellow friends from CTI, Daren and Yashera who were on the lookout for internships. Hence I would say that the job fair experience was fine, on th last day of the job fair, I was the last one to leave for home but I was pleased with what I had achieved.

Your internship journey seems very interesting and its also inspiring for young job seekers, especially the communication part. This is because we tend to follow the routines & get too involved with ourselves/our lives so much that sometimes when we need to interact with people, it becomes a problem and also when you're a shy person like me for example LOL :P Seems you really had a great experience. Good going! All the best :)

Hello Lubina,
Thank You very much for your reply, the internship was very fruitful for me. I agree with you that we are so engrossed in our routine lives, that we even do not interact with our own parents. The Job Fair allowed me to open up a bit and it was nice to interact with people. Yes you know me very well my dear friend. Of course I really enjoyed myself because it was exciting and I learnt a lot of things. Thank you very much Lubina for encouraging me. I wish you all the best as well for the future.
Thank You
Hans

Hi Hans,
The job fair seems to be a great opportunity to meet new people and I realized how much drafting speech for our PR techniques module has been helpful. Your task was quite challenging but was also a good way to learn more about your company since you needed to convey people why they should work there.

I can understand that you felt shy at first since it was the same for me when I went for a session to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS, but as you said, at first it is difficult but afterwards, you feel more confident about yourself.

I think that participating in events and applying the concepts in real life really helps to grow.

Thank you Hans, for sharing the post with us.
Good luck for the rest
Estelle

Hi Estelle,
Thank you for your comments and appreciating my blog.
The job fair has allowed me to meet different kinds of people and interact with them. It is these events that you realise how many graduates are looking for a job in this country and I found it quite alarming.
I was tired. i had to stand the whole day and for some days my legs were aching. At first I used to avoid people but gradually I had to talk to people because I could not stand there and watch.
Then I started feeling confident. The event allowed me to apply several skills and theories in a real life situation.
Thank You very much.
I wish you good luck as well.
Hans.
