Its time to hang up my intern pants, fold my perfectly ironed shirt and leave Momentum Forum Events behind.
So what have I learn't over the past five months...
1. Organise Everything and Everyone
In order to work in the Public Relations industry in the real world one must be prepared and ready to act at any point in time. My supervisor, Barbara McNaught doesn't stop working when she leaves the office, her work continues until late at night and starts as soon as she wakes up. Usually by the time she get to her office in the morning, she has taken multiple phone calls and made about five meetings for the next few days. Her commitment to her work is why she has been so successful.
2. The Media is Royalty
Secondly I have learnt that media relations is such an important part of working in the public relations industry. Its all about who you know, the relationships one has with the media has the ability to make or break a project. Barbara has been able to develop very solid relationships with certain media outlets and representatives over her long standing career. I have witnessed the way she treats them and how she communicates with them, she is respectful and acknowledges the power they have, while being just confident enough to convince them she is right. Barbara's relationship with The West Australian in particular, is truly amazing and their partnership contributes largely to Barbaras success!
3. The Importance of Coffee
On a less serious note. I have learn't that coffee can fix pretty much anything, and as an intern, providing that coffee for everyone in the office means a lot. A slow day can be turned around by a good latte, chuck in an extra shot and who knows what could be achieved. I guess I mean to say that you never know what the day will bring when working in PR, its fast paced, and unpredictable. You may as well buckle up, drink some delicious caffeine and enjoy the ride.
Im excited to find out where the rest of my public relations career will take me as I know it could literally be ANYWHERE!

Hey there!
I totally agree with point number two. Media relations is the absolute key to almost everything in the PR world. It's amazing how media has the ability to shape narratives and rhetorics that operate within our society, and as you said, it has the ability to make or break a project and even an organization.
Maintaining a relationship with them is equally essential and it involves plenty of focus on minor things, like how your structure a media release etc. Interesting stuff!
