Transitioning into the real world

The post university agenda- so where to now ??

There was a different feeling in the air the day I concluded my internship at the Perth office for Kreab.

Being part of a small team had many perks- quick feedback, regularly up to date with each other's tasks, ability to 'call out for help' at any point and working within a fantastic, cohesive team unit.

Hence why I had feeling of sadness knowing that would be the last morning I would be at my desk in the office with the team members who had taught me an incredible amount in a short period of time.

All of a sudden it dawned on me that it would be the last time I would see the friendly, smiling faces I had become accustomed to greeting several mornings a week for the past few months .

Yet despite the feeling of sadness in knowing my internship had come to an end- there was a feeling of excitement about the feeling of the unknown in regards to my future endeavours.

Both team members gave me wonderful advice throughout the course of my internship and gave me great perspective in regards to just how weird and wonderful the world can be and how it can present you with opportunities when you least expect it.

This piece of wisdom has given me the clarity so see my transition from university life into the real world as an opportunity to build contacts, connections, gain experience and be bold with any job ambitions!

As I reflect on all of this and look to the future, among the uncertainties of the path I am heading towards post university, this quote struck me as the ideal piece of advice for all graduating PR students:

I hope this inspired you to go forth with your job ambitions and remember- all experience is valuable experience!

All the best,

Maddie

Hey Madeleine,

It's awesome to see that you're so inspired by your experience. You have such a great attitude about your internship and future endeavors, and I'm sure that will take you far. I'm totally with you about how nerve-wracking and exciting it is to finish the internship and realize that there's a massive world out there of PR adventures!

You said that any experience is good experience, and I couldn't agree more. I think with a public relations degree most of us have to expect to put in the hard-yards with internships and unpaid work before finding employment - which will only make that inevitability much more rewarding.

Best of luck with everything,

Amy.

Hi Madeleine,

I completely agree with your post. It's crucial for individuals to realize the existence of a massive world out there and the amount of opportunities available to every single one of us.

I'm delighted for you - that you thoroughly enjoyed your internship experience. I think the greatest thing about the whole experience, is that we are exposed the real life requirements, as far as getting the job is concerned.

Hopefully, you've discovered your passion within the industry and I certainly wish you the best of luck!
