Experienced as being an Intern

Hello Everyone! Good Day!

I am sure that everyone feel the anxiety and the feeling of nervousness approaching the first day of your internship right? Indeed! I felt it on my first day which is the 9th September 2015. I am doing my internship placement at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri from the 9th September 2015 - 22nd October 2015. Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri is a digital library providing various facilities and services to the local community.

Once I reached my work place, I was greeted with the warmest smile from the staffs in the office. My supervisor and a few other officers was not in the office during my first day as they all were in Kuching for a course. All of them came back on the 10th September 2015. I met my supervisor on Friday (10/09/2015) when I came in the office she was very welcoming and introduce me to all the other officers and the facilities in Pustaka.

I was very shy during my first week in the office. All of the staffs were so welcoming and began making me feel comfortable. During my second week of Internship, I started to open up a bit and talk to the staffs in the office. On the first day, I was appointed to sit on my supervisor place as she was not in the office.

One of the staff teach me how to answer the calls if there is no one answering it. So far since I started, I only answered the phone for about five times. Kind of nervous answering it as they will be important people talking or asking to pass the line to the officers. My first task when my supervisor got back in the office was to create a notice flyer for an event on "Komunit Ilmu" and writing two media release which is in English and Bahasa Malaysia. I was given the chance to write a media release and I am glad that I tried to do as it will be a good use in the future.

Apart from that, week two approach and I was given the same task as week one which is to produce a notice flyer on an event about a Health Talk: Eczema on the 1st of October 2015. I fulfill the task given by my supervisor and she is happy with the design I created. I was blessed with the opportunity in my class of Public Relations Techniques our lecturer teach us on how to create newsletter and poster. My poster which I created for the 2nd event went up on Pustaka Facebook page although it is nothing but at least I learned and expose myself throughout this Internship.

This is the flyer which I created for the 2nd event

Besides that, I've been taught on doing newspaper clippings in which I get to file the media releases that my supervisor ask me to cut out from the newspaper. Throughout the two weeks I am with Pustaka for my internship, it definitely motivates and teach me that the working world is not as easy as we think. But once you experienced is you will feel that it is a challenging thing to work on.

That's all for this post! Till my next post!

Dear Karen,

Such an interesting post! We all experienced the "first day" working dilemma but I am glad that we all have made it.Yeah! I have done a lot of phone calls during my internship. Mostly, I will call to the media outlets to ask them if they have received the press releases or invite them to events. Calling is not an easy job and I think you doing it well!

Looking forward to your next post!

Good Luck in your internship.
