Trainee In The Process: Media Clippings

It has been several weeks since my first post and there is just so much to tell all of you (I don't even know where to start). Let me just begin by saying that I have already moved to the Public Relations department in Miri Marriott Resort & Spa and it has been quite a hand-full experience so far for the past three weeks. I have learned to do media clipping, assisting in events, designed menus and cards, and drafted  social media posting schedule for Miri Marriott's social media platforms.

Media clippings, to be honest, is something that I am not familiar with but it is definitely good for keeping track of the hotel's media releases, advertisements, reviews including the hotel's competitions on how they are doing. It is also a good way to keep one updated with the latest trends and styles in the media releases, advertisements and posters. It takes much focus and a sharp eye to catch the hot topics as one flips through the papers. This is one way how Miri Marriott monitors their media, through traditional media coverage. This is to anticipate and interpret the public opinion and attitude that may impact the future of the hotel. Moreover, it is also to anticipate the trends  in order to be on par or be ahead of the competition including anticipating challenges ad issues that may be faced in the future or is currently being faced. This could also help to adapt out communications program instantly in order to create an impact. Reading through the media clippings may seem like it is no big deal but it actually is and it is actually a big deal.

This is also a means to research on what can be improved and what can be avoided in the hotel and in the midst of thousands of hospitality industry. Basically, to be the best of the best at the end of the day.

Something as small as this should never be taken lightly. It is important. big or small. Take note peeps!

Hi Ivy! I am enjoying my time on media monitoring as well! However, our company only focus on general industry news as well as our own media releases. Our company only focus on 3 main local newspapers, and we have no social media monitoring as our company is a B2B company. Anyway, I love to screening on media! I hope you enjoy your time with Marriott and keep updates!
