I was given this incredible industry
experience first hand at a recent event launch for upcoming on demand travel
service, Shofer. Said to be the ‘next
big thing’ in competition with Uber this service gained a lot of media
attention due to the current controversy circulated through Uber
and the Australian taxi companies nationally.
The event was set at Langley Park and
guests included the South African based founders of the company, the drivers of
the new service, individual stakeholders and all relevant media personnel.
I was able to see intense preparation
needed in order for this event to come together with streamline precision and
see the monthly build up to the event from ordering entertainment, notifying
media of the newsworthy story to be had and organising the overall attendees.
Upon doing so thought and preparation regarding the MC, catering and what the
event would consist of was fine tuned to the absolute maximum with event time
sheets, contingency plans and MC notes scheduled down to the minute.
Although we did learn about these skills
and techniques required in class I found it extremely interesting to finally
put our learning to practice, in a professional environment.
The event ran with streamline precision
thanks to all the behind the scenes planning and working by the team at DPR and
really highlighted that in the PR industry no thought to small is unnecessary.
I hope a lot of you have had the
opportunity to experience a PR event as I found it invaluable to my learning
and know you’d agree.

Hey Georgia,
This event looks like it would've been a fantastic experience to help plan and implement! I'm glad to hear that all your hard work and planning saw result in such a smooth running event!
You've definitely made me excited to see the results of events my own internship placement has in the works, I really hope they go as to plan as yours seems to have. It's amazing how much preparation, meetings and collaboration go into making these events, I know you probably feel the same way as I do in a new found appreciation for organisers when attending events during daily life. I myself have realised the practicality of our assignments throughout our degree and am so thankful for Curtin for appropriately preparing us to further our careers and transition into the workforce with ease!
Sounds like you're enjoying yourself and are making an impact at your placement! Can't wait to read more!
