My last day!

Hi everyone,

So I've completed my last day interning at Youth Focus and I've taken away three key points from this experience.

1) Don't be afraid to voice your opinion.

During my time at Youth Focus I found myself getting caught in the mentality that I'm just the 'intern'. If I could give you all one piece of advice it would be DONT GET CAUGHT IN THAT MENTALITY! Don't be afraid to voice your opinion on things, whether it's an idea or an amendment on an important document.
For example, I was asked to read over a sponsorship proposal and make adjustments where necessary.  At first I was really hesitant to do so, I didn't want to step on the toes of the communications manager who devised the document. However, I made a couple of amendments and it turned out they absolutely loved my suggestions. *Confidence boost*.

2) Feedback works wonders.
I am a strong believer of feedback and what it can do for personal growth and development.
I really enjoy giving people feedback if I think it will benefit them and I love receiving feedback and learning new ways I can better the things I do. However, the delivery of feedback is key, and the environment you give that feedback is so important.

3) Professionalism is key.
I got the opportunity to work with some really wonderful and exciting people around the same age as me. It is important to remember whats appropriate in the work space, and whats appropriate at Friday afternoon drinks. Working in the head office for Youth Focus meant there was a high volume of clients coming and going on a daily basis so you have to be setting a great example.

So where to now?
Overall this experience has given me a great insight into what happens behind the scenes in terms of Public Relations and Social Media.
I think the next path I will take will be events/event management, just so I can be a little more involved!

Working for Youth Focus was such an inspirational experience, knowing my work was contributing to such an important issue in society today was incredibly rewarding.

I hope you all had as much fun as I did :)
