The End

Hi Everyone,

By the end of my internship I learnt so much about the industry, consultancy, and the company PPR. I was luck enough to complete my placement at a well established firm. Although the firm is well established with a good client base, I found that I could have gotten more out of the public relations side of things rather than how the business operates administratively.

Through working along side the consultants I was able to discover that there is more that comes along with maintaining relationships with a client especially when a project comes to an end, this is where follow up work and showing ongoing interest in a specific client and their business comes to its most importance.

At times I found myself to be left with not much to do, which essentially is a reflection upon the changing economy and the challenges that come along with it. If consultancy's clients don't have work on or can take on the capacity to do new things and improve their business then the consultancy is left with the unfortunate consequences that include them not generating a revenue as no work is being produced.

Another thing I found through the placement is that social media matter and will continue to matter and take over the main business marketing objectives. It is an aspect of our society that has become well founded and well used by more of the population than not.

My expectation was to put all that I have learned through my units at uni to the test and in use, but almost none were put to use which was one aspect I was well disappointed in. It was explained to me that it was due to finding work for someone in the place of an intern was hard when the consultants themselves are struggling to find work themselves, even though PPR is a leader within the industry.

This experience has made me see all aspects of PR and has assisted me in getting a clear view of the profession. It has made me realise and confirm the career pathway I want to take in life ad where I would like to ideally be in the PR industry.

Hi Ana,

I encountered similar experiences during my placement. The role of intern offered me limited but thankfully sufficient content to work with. You made a connection between the lack of opportunities with real economic challenges, I found this really interesting as it resonates with the situation here in Malaysia. Additionally, you highlighted the need for a consultancy to keep up with the client's needs and expectation, I believe that PR is a competitive industry and one must be constantly innovative and creative to stay above the pack.

A very insightful post into your internship experience.
