The day is arriving.....

As I have mentioned in my previous post, this week is my final week of training and tommorrow is my final day in the office. As glad as I am that I am that close to finishing this fulfilling two months, I also feel relunctant because there is still so much I can learn.

Anyway, on to my reflection. Today I started looking back at a few little management activities which I have been apart of and started to think that there are hidden or integrated elements of PR in them.

For example, I have been, so far, a part of 3 food tasting sessions with the administration staff. All with different reasons. The first one was to test a new set of pastries which the pastry chef has came up with. The second was a test for a job applicant who wanted a position in the main kitchen. Lastly, it was to try out the dishes the executive chef has designed for tommorrow's Valentine's Day Dinner.

Looking back at that activity, apart from getting hungry again, I remembered that we were asked to not only judge the taste but also the presentation. In a way, the food is also a PR tool. Whereby food with appealing looks and incredible flavour(s) shows the quality of service and/or skill the guests are getting. Thus building an image. Why would I say this is a PR element? Simple. I believe that anything which can be used as a 'tool' to reflect the company's/individual's image can be used as a PR tool. (Anyone else would like to comment?)

Looking at it now, almost everything in a hotel creates an image for it. I believe that this is the case for the service industry. I was also ask my opinion about a magazine which was to be placed in certain rooms in the hotel. That tells me that every little detail counts in creating an image. In a way that shows how difficult it is to be working in the service industry.

Question. Anyone out there working in a product based company? Care to comment on how it is like there?

That's it for this post. Thank you for reading. Please do leave a comment. Peace and have fun. Good luck to those who are still continuing their internship.

Hi there,
Communication in Public Relations comes out in different ways, not only through oral and written documents. I agree with you that food acts as a PR tool for your company. If it’s good the credits go to you and if not then no credits, hence it plays a role in building the image of the company. I’ve noticed a similar trend too with the company I’m attached to. I remember that one time before we sent some documents to a client, there were discussions on how the packages should be; what folders, colours, designs, CD covers and labels should be used, and how the proposals would be presented to the clients. This played a role in building the image of the company because from the feedback I got from my boss, they had an amazing presentation and the client was delighted with.
So, I agree with you that products of a company can also be its PR tool.

best wishes

I didn't work in a product-based industry but I think you pointed out some good points on image is everything.

Even in the service industry, customer service, negotiating with clients and even manner of speech plays an important part of projecting an image.

It takes 6 seconds for someone to make a first impression and that impression really counts alot in future dealings!

hey from the first module of pr it was emphasized that pr is mostly creating a good image for the company to the public.in this case i believe pr was active in the sense that everything that you guys did was to put your company in a better position as wellk as making it the most outstanding in terms of services and meals offered.good reputation in pr can be gained thruogh different activities for example as for we tried by all means to collect as much blood as possible so to save the ones in need.so with that the community at large valued our organisation as their thrugh its activities their loved ones are saved.
i belive pr is everywhere and some organisations do not have specific derpartments for pr even thogh it is being practiced everyday
