Joy of media releases?

Oh the many joys of media releases...?

Now I’m not sure about you guys – I’m guessing I may be alone in this - but to be honest I never really enjoyed media releases. To be frank, last year I was so hating media releases that I politely informed by tutor of my feelings and discontent, in which she replied, “don’t worry Hannah - there is more to Public Relations than just Media Releases”. I believed her, which gave me some ease and then naively just assumed that I’d somehow be able to manoeuvre my way through being a public relations practitioner with NEVER having to do a media release. Oh how naive I was!

I’m still really enjoying my work placement at Variety Children's Charity and thought I’d managed to avoid any sort of media releases.. until.. last week when I asked my supervisor what she’d like me to do in which she spoke those two most dreaded words... ‘media release?’. But wiat - there is more. I was not asked to do just one media release but eight media releases! Of course I did not want to say “oh I’m sorry I don’t like media releases, can I do something else?” so instead I persevered and got along with the task at hand. After the writing the first media release I showed my supervisor so she could read it over and check it was ok. She read it quickly and said, “that’s great, Hannah”, in which I was extremely relieved! I then went on to write the seven other media releases and then once I’d finished them all, the strangest feeling occured. I actually (well I won’t say enjoyed writing the media releases) but I’ll say that my fear and dread of media releases had strangely disappeared. Obviously this is a very good thing as I know that there will be plenty more media releases to write in my time!!

So I guess you can say that I’ve conquered one of my PR fears and now actually don’t mind media releases. Thank you work placement for giving me the opportunity to boost my confidence a little :)

Congrats Hannah!

That sounds really great and your story totally displayed the value of the internship programme for budding PR professionals like us.

By the way, you were not alone, I kinda dislike writing media releases as well. Fortunately or unfortunately, I am not required to write any media releases for my internship. I am mainly involved in events, two of them has past, another one is coming up in December.

Well at least now I know that I may well be 8 media releases away from liking it. :)

That's truly great Hannah!

Even myself, I didn't enjoy writing media releases but after the internship, i was asked to do two media releases which is nothing compared to your seven media releases, but after doing it i changed to a perspective where media releases were not that bad. I actually enjoyed doing media releases as how i enjoyed doing news articles! But in your case, practice makes it perfect! =)
