Today at Pigeonhole I recieved a great deal of insight into events management, which completely opened my eyes and showed me how "un-glamourous" it can be!
I was in charge of finding companies to sponsor our event, Lomovember, for food, alcohol and DJ equipment. Everyone I contacted were nice enough, however they were all very hesitant about sponsoring a small business. As the event is next Friday, we didn't really have time to wait for people to call us back, so I ended up looking for the best deals around Perth: corporate packages, bulk deals, etc. It makes me realise how important it is to gain permanent sponsors, so that when it does come down to events, budgeting and funding equipment, catering, etc would be made a lot easier. However, as Pigeonhole is still an expanding company and the events are so sparse, it can be harder to keep on-going sponsors.
In relation to the sponsorship topic of PR Consultancy, I can see how it is a big aspect of a PR business as it helps to have some funding going into the budget for events management and other campaign strategies.
I am still enjoying my internship at Pigeonhole and even though it was frustrating calling around for sponsorship, I felt like I was part of the PR team.
