As some more days passed by at IOC.

My second week turned out to be fairly interesting. I was invited by my in charge to join a panel for discussion on a recent fire tragedy that struck the company. One of the oil terminals in the western region in Jaipur had caught fire leading to explosion of all the oil tanks at the terminal and causing immense damage to life and property.the panel came to discuss on what were the issues still running in the media in regards to the incident and what more needed to be done in order to deal with the scenario.Interesting points came up in the discussion and issues like too how corporate communication is strictly controlled by higher management was also brought up. I as an internee gave my suggestion to the best of my understanding of the case. After the discussion i had a broader understanding of the situation and learnt that in organizations like IOC, corporate communications has to go through a lot approvals before, any information gets revealed to the media or the public. A lot of it is actually controlled by the management.
Mid way through with my week, a very interesting assignment was given to me. The company had recently revised their vision and i was given an assignment, to conduct a survey and find out the effectiveness of the different channels of communication used by the corporate communication department to deliver the information to its employees. Now, IOC on a whole has around 32000 employees, therefore it was practically impossible for me do do a survey with that number. Therefore my task was narrowed down to a southern region state called Karnataka in India.
