Well, hello there, I'm Sharon (working in a self-help group for Chinese community in Singapore). Playing a small role since I'm representing only one of the 11 centres here, I would say that the small role is actually quite a meaty one. Finally convinced my Manager after having a meeting with her and our Executive Director regarding me using my job for this module, I'm glad that I could continue to embark in this career that I simply love and enjoy doing.
Communication haunts me like a spirit since my job involves community outreach and networking is the bulk of my work. I'm kind of glad that my major is PR, since it greatly helps in what I'm doing. Networking with parents and their children, schools and their principals/ representatives, family service centres, grassroots organisations and management committees/ volunteers etc. The stakeholders list is growing day by day.
As volunteers liaison is important, I soon understood that building a good rapport with them is essential since they can really help to solve many issues and save alot of costs. As a non-profit organisation, spending less money while still getting the work done is a plus point.
While planning for a Networking Session which will happen on 15 Jan 2011, I discussed with our management committee chairman for ideas on the delivery method, marketing collaterals and other stuff to make it a significant event where the guests will remember and appreciate. One of the volunteers designed this "Red Angel" using paper and styrofoam cups, it was that easy and cost-effective. I sent out an email just before Christmas and managed to gather 30 volunteers to come by yesterday (2 Jan 2011) to do the handicraft. Armed with scissors and glue sticks, they completed almost 100 angels within 2hrs. Each angel probably costed less than 30cents but I'm sure our networking partners who will be receiving them will definitely love the cute angels to the core!
