Busy Busy New Year

Hi everyone, Happy Lunar New Year. This week is the Chinese New Year week in Singapore. During this festive season, RISIS, one of my company’s clients have a yearly event – Gift of Hope to celebrate the first born baby of the Chinese year. They celebrate by giving the baby the endowment form of $8,888 (this year, they change it to cash) and present gifts for both the mother and the baby.

For this event, my boss has made me the coordinator between the hospitals and the media. I have managed to get all the hospitals with Gynaecology services and five media outlet to participate. The five media outlets are The Straits Times, Lianhe Wanbao, Lianhe Zaobao, Shinmin Daily and the various Chinese Radio Stations from Singapore Press Holdings (SPH).

During the early morning of 23 January 2012, my phone was bombarded by the marketing communication personnel from the various hospitals, hoping that their hospital has delivery the first water dragon baby this year. After I have finalized all the parent’s and baby’s details, I have to inform the media on the timings and venue to meet for the ceremony the next day. After which, I have to organized and send the parent’s and baby’s details to my boss who wrote the press release over the night.

At around 630am, I have to prepare all the media kits, gifts and etc at the office and after that, off to the hospitals to prepare for the ceremony. This year, there are 3 babies who are born at the stroke of midnight, 2 girls and 1 boy.

Everything went quite smoothly for this event though there are some hiccups here and there. Nonetheless, all are solved. Through this event, I had learnt how to play by ear and change plans according to the situation. Not everything has to go according to the plans or the program flow.
Now that everything has come to an end, I can finally relax for a while and wait for all the clippings to come. This is my third post and counting down to 8 more working days to the end of my internship. I shall write more on my last post next week as I have another event next week.

Hi Katie,

Wow, you sound so busy over the holidays! It must have been a huge responsibility for you to be the point of contact for this particular event.

You mention "I've learnt how to play by ear and change plans according to the situation. Not everything has to go according to the plans or the program flow." and I could not agree more.

Unlike you, I have not yet partake in any events but I can relate to you. Through my internship, I've also learn to adapt a negative situation and make it a positive one.

I can't wait to hear about your next event! Do share!

Wishing you a Happy Chinese New Year,
Weiying
