Event: API's 4pm Forum!

Hey guys!

So here I am again, just a couple more days until I finish my internship *tear.. It's strange. Although I was only there once a week (until the last couple of weeks where I took on 2 days/week), I think because the company is so small - literally three permanent employees including the owner, I've gotten to know them all very well on a professional and personal level which is really nice :)

First things first, I helped out an event yesterday - Thursday 10th May. Networking WA (where I'm placed) works very closely with API (the Australian Property Institute) and manage all of their events. This event was for API and it was called the 4pm Forum which was held at The Atrium. No, not the buffet in Burswood (I thought it was there as well), it's actually a place on King St/St Georges Terrace in the city. Yeah I'd never heard of it either. The event was from 4pm (hence the "4pm" in the event name, I wish I could take credit for coming up with it but sadly not.. I'm not that quirky) until 6pm, followed with some nibblies and drinks!

My involvement with the whole thing was only to help out at the actual event. Prior to this I'd found out who the speakers were and helped prepare little name badges for everyone, making sure we include the company from which they're from. We arrived an hour early and started to set up. So we provided the computer and all the gadgets (microphones and what not), organised food and drinks catering, set up tables out the front and brought our banners down to do some harmless self advertising, but the people from The Atrium wouldn't let us put it up :( Anyway so as soon as the guests started arriving I was greeting everyone up the front (while the other girls were setting up and liasing with the guest speakers). I was in charge of changing registrations for people that were replacing those that couldn't make it. There were about 60 people at the event, so relatively small. Then at 5pm our food and beverage caterer arrived and I was in charge of showing him where to go and the whole set up of the foyer.

All in all it didn't really feel like I was doing much, however there is a great responsibility for event managers to be present at their events to make sure everything runs smoothly.

I can say one thing for sure though, I don't think I'll ever be interested in property!! Haha.

Not long til the end of semester! Soldier on troops

Hey Stephanie,

Thanks for your interesting post on the forum. I am sure that you have gained knowledge on ensuring the smooth running for future events with the tasks that you were involved in during the event.Being a PR & Tourism Events Management student myself, I am very interested in learning how to assist and organise successful events and have discovered that the key success to events is essentially the pre-planning event process where every tiny detail counts followed by the staging of the event, and lastly the post-event stage. I hope that you have enjoyed yourself during the event and it is good to know that you were deeply involved in the event staging stage being in charge of registration and setting up the venue. Enjoy the rest of your internship and keep up your good work!
