A Stereotypical PR department

Hello everybody, its Erick Manyara Mochache again, and i did my internship in my home country Kenya,   at the P.R firm of the Kenya Ports Authority for one month.

PR practitioners are always supposed to be well dressed and ready to take on any random catastrophes that may just pop out of the blue. Being the coast of Kenya (no offense to my people) i wouldnt expect people to be that intriguing fashion-wise as well as prompt-wise. The stereotype of those who work in the coast is slow and completely undependable. Somehow there are never any large out of control crisis in the coast and after interning there i realized why. Those who work in the PR departments are nothing like the rest.

it is completely optional to wear a tie to work and as it is the coast the scotching sun doesn't even allow you to feel the slightest bit of comfort in a vest. yet you will find everyone in this department in what i could call inappropriate clothing for the weather. why do they do this? because PR practitioners should always be presentable and until i did the internship i never realized how serious this was.

During presentations and other events that force one to speak publicly in university, we are always urged to look as presentable as possible. most of the time people dont really try and assigning grades to how presentable a public speaker is, seemed exteme, even a little like bullying. But after one month of knowing at any point i could be representing the whole company, infront of the whole world, i figured out the importance of being prompt and presentable always as a PR practitioner and this is a stereotype that should comfortably hold.

It seems like you are handling a challenging role out there! With tough obstacles to overcome! I believe with all your presentation experiences in school, you will be able to present well in front of the whole company!

Keep up the good work! =)
